Understanding the Part View fields and how to use them
The Part View is the central record for a part in SavantPLM. It displays all attributes of a part and allows Editors to update those attributes. To open the Part View, search for a part number in the Portal and click on it.
The Part View is organized into tabs: General, Electrical, Cost / Pricing, Inventory, BOM (for assembly parts), Files, and 3D View. Each tab groups related fields together.
The Scratchpad is a quick-access list of recently pinned parts, shown alongside the Part View. Once a part is loaded, click Add to Scratchpad to pin it. Clicking any part in the Scratchpad automatically loads that part in the Part View, making it easy to switch between frequently referenced parts without searching again.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Part Number |
The unique identifier for the part within your workspace. There are two ways to create a new part:
New PN — Options The New PN button uses three optional inputs to control how the next part number is generated:

These fields apply to electrical components and are displayed on the Electrical tab.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Voltage (V) | Rated voltage of the component in volts. Optional |
| AC/DC | Whether the component operates on AC or DC power. Optional |
| Current (A) | Rated current in amps. Optional |
| Phase | Single-phase or three-phase designation. Optional |
| Delta/Wye | For three-phase components, the winding configuration (Delta or Wye). Optional |
| Power (W) | Rated power in watts. Optional |
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Cost (DM) | Direct material cost per unit. Used in BOM cost rollups. Optional |
| UOM | Unit of Measure (e.g. Each, Foot, Kilogram). For non-raw-material parts this is automatically set to Each. |
| List Price | The vendor list price per unit. Optional |
| For Sale | Indicates whether this part is sold as a finished good to customers. |
| Part Hours | Estimated labor hours to produce one unit of this part. Used in manufacturing cost calculations when no routing is defined — the Default labor class rate is applied to this value. Optional |
| Weight (Kg) | Net weight of the part in kilograms, to 0.0001 Kg (0.1 g). For a part with no BOM this is the weight used everywhere. For an assembly it is the measured weight, for example from weighing the finished assembly. Optional |
| Calculated from BOM (Kg) | Assemblies only (read-only): the sum of quantity × weight over the BOM lines, all the way down. A part with no weight is never counted as zero: if any part below the assembly has no weight the figure is marked incomplete and the missing part numbers are listed. If both a measured and a complete calculated weight exist, the difference is shown. |
| Weight used in roll-ups | Assemblies only. Which weight a parent assembly uses for this assembly when it totals its BOM, so an assembly is counted once and never twice. Any Editor can change it. Auto (default): the calculated weight if every part below has a weight; otherwise the measured weight if there is one (labelled “BOM incomplete”); otherwise a partial total marked incomplete. Entered (measured): always the weight typed on the part, for example when only the finished assembly was weighed. Calculated from BOM: always the BOM total, even if a measured weight is typed. |
| Shipping Weight (Kg) | Packaged shipping weight in kilograms. Optional |
| Standard Lot Size | The standard production quantity per manufacturing run. Defaults to 1. Optional Effect on costing: When a routing is defined, setup costs (setup hours × labor/machine rates) are amortized across the standard lot size before being added to unit cost. For example, if setup labor costs $100 and the standard lot size is 10, only $10 of setup cost is added per unit. Run hour costs are always per-unit and are not affected by lot size. |
The Inventory section shows the current stock quantities for this part across all locations.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Total Physical Qty | The total quantity physically on hand across all inventory locations. |
| Total Available Qty | The quantity available for use (Physical minus Scrap). |
| Total Scrap Qty | The quantity designated as scrap or non-conforming stock. |
| Safety Stock Qty | The minimum quantity to keep on hand at all times as a buffer against demand spikes or supply delays. Parts below this level are flagged Below Safety Stock in the Inventory Health view. Optional |
| Reorder Point | The quantity at which a new order should be placed. Set this high enough that stock won't fall below safety stock before the order arrives. Parts at or below this level are flagged Needs Reorder in the Inventory Health view. Optional |
| Lead Time | The number of days required to procure or manufacture this part. Optional |
| MOQ | Minimum Order Quantity — the smallest quantity that can be ordered from the vendor. Optional |
The BOM tab is available for parts with Part Type = ASSEMBLY. It lists all child components that make up this assembly at the current revision.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Part Number | The child component's part number. Click to navigate to that part's Part View. |
| Title | The name of the child component. |
| Qty | The quantity of this child component required per unit of the parent assembly. |
| UOM | Unit of Measure for the child component quantity. |
| Cost | The extended cost for this BOM line (child Cost DM × Qty). |
The ECO History button near the Last ECO field opens a list of all Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) that include this part number. This lets you trace the full revision history of a part and see when and why changes were made.
The ECO History can be filtered to show all ECOs, released ECOs only, or unreleased ECOs only.
The Files button in the Part View opens the Files panel for the currently loaded part. It displays file launch buttons for every supported file type (PDF, DXF, STEP, STP, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Inventor, AutoCAD, images, and more). Clicking a button opens that file directly from your local network drive using the SavantVA Viewer Agent.
Each button shows a green dot if the file exists at the expected vault path, or appears dimmed if no file is found. An Open Folder button is also available to open the part's repository folder in your file explorer.
For full details on how the Files tab works, how to configure the file repository path, and how to install SavantVA, see the SavantVA Viewer Agent help page.
The 3D View tab (to the right of Files) lets you attach a 3D model to a part and view it right in your browser. Anyone in your workspace can open the model, including Viewer-role users, and no CAD software is needed. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, and click a face, edge or corner of the orientation cube in the corner to snap to that view. You can switch between Turntable and Free Orbit, Perspective and Orthographic, and Shaded and Shaded + Edges. A Download button gets you the original file.
.step or .stp) file. STL files can be up to 50 MB and STEP files up to 20 MB.Each part number has one 3D file. The model belongs to the part number, not to a revision, so it stays attached when you revise the part. Uploading a new file replaces the existing one (you are asked to confirm), and the old file is deleted. Use Delete to remove the model without replacing it.
Each plan includes an amount of 3D file storage shared by the whole workspace. Trial subscriptions have a smaller allowance. The 3D View tab and Settings → App Info show how much you have used. If an upload would go over your allowance it is refused with a message; delete or replace files to free up space, or upgrade your plan.
