❤ Inventory Health

Monitoring stock levels and identifying parts that need attention

Overview

The Inventory Health view gives you a quick snapshot of stock status across all parts. It compares each part's on-hand quantity against two thresholds — Safety Stock and Reorder Point — so you can see at a glance what needs attention and what needs to be ordered.

Inventory Health is accessible from the SavantPLM sidebar under Inventory → Inventory Health. This feature requires the Advanced Inventory subscription add-on.

Safety Stock

Safety stock is the minimum quantity you want to keep on hand at all times. It acts as a buffer against unexpected demand or supply delays — you should never intentionally draw stock below this level.

The Safety Stock Qty field is set on each part in the Part View under the Inventory tab. Parts whose on-hand quantity falls below safety stock are flagged as Below Safety Stock (red).

To set a safety stock quantity, open the Part View, load the part, go to the Inventory tab, click Edit, and enter a value in the Safety Stock Qty field.

Reorder Point

The reorder point is the quantity at which you should place a new order — high enough that stock won't fall below safety stock by the time the order arrives. Unlike safety stock (which is a floor you never want to cross), the reorder point is a trigger for action.

The Reorder Point field is set manually on each part in the Part View under the Inventory tab. Parts whose on-hand quantity is at or below the reorder point — but still above safety stock — are flagged as Needs Reorder (orange).

A simple starting point: set the reorder point to the quantity you typically consume during your supplier's lead time. For example, if you use 10 units per day and lead time is 5 days, a reorder point of 50 (plus your safety stock buffer) makes sense.

Health Indicators

Each part is assigned one of four statuses based on its on-hand quantity compared to its thresholds:

StatusMeaning
Below Safety Stock On-hand quantity is below the safety stock level. Immediate attention required.
Needs Reorder On-hand quantity is at or below the reorder point but still above safety stock. Time to place an order.
OK On-hand quantity is above the reorder point (or above safety stock if no reorder point is set).
No Thresholds Set Neither safety stock nor reorder point has been set for this part. It is not evaluated.

Using the View

The Inventory Health view lists all tracked parts. Use the filter buttons to narrow by status, or search by part number or name. The Delta column shows how far on-hand quantity is above or below the safety stock level.

Clicking a part number opens the Part View for that part so you can review details, update thresholds, or navigate to Inventory Balance to adjust quantities.

Inventory Health reflects the total available quantity across all locations. It does not show per-location breakdowns — use Inventory Balance to see quantities by location.
