Creating and managing Engineering Change Requests
An Engineering Change Request (ECR) is a formal request to change a part, assembly, process, or document. ECRs capture the who, what, and why of a proposed change before it is acted upon. Once a change is approved and implemented, it is typically tracked through an Engineering Change Order (ECO).
The ECR list is accessible from the SavantPLM sidebar. Viewers can browse and search ECRs. Editors can create, edit, and mark ECRs complete.
The ECR list displays all ECRs in your workspace in a sortable table. Each row shows the key fields for a quick overview. Click View on any row to open the ECR Detail view for that record.
Use the controls in the top bar to narrow the list:
ⓘ To link an ECR to a triggering NCR or CAR, enter those numbers in the Linked NCR # and Linked CAR # fields on the ECR detail view. The ECO that addresses this ECR is set with the Linked ECO # field on the same page — one ECO can address several ECRs.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| View | Opens the ECR Detail view for this record. |
| Done | A checkbox to mark the ECR complete or incomplete. Editors only. |
| Edit | Opens an inline edit form for this row. Editors only. |
| ECR # | The auto-assigned ECR number. |
| Title | A short description of the change request. |
| Model(s) | The product model(s) affected by this change. |
| Priority | Low, Medium, High, or Critical. |
| Assigned To | The workspace user responsible for this ECR. |
| Status | Open, In Progress, Completed, or Voided. |
| ECO # | The ECO that addresses this ECR. Set it from the ECR's Linked ECO # field. Several ECRs can point at the same ECO. |
| Affected PN | The part number that this change request affects. |
| Requested By (User) | The workspace user who originated the request. |
| Requested By (Other) | A free-text name for a requester who is not a workspace user. |
| Date Created | When the ECR record was created. |
| Date Completed | When the ECR was marked complete. |
Click the checkbox in the Done column to toggle an ECR between complete and incomplete. The change is saved immediately. When an ECR is marked complete, the Date Completed field is set automatically.
Click View on any ECR row to open its detail view. The top bar shows the ECR number, title, and a color-coded status pill. A back link returns you to the ECR list.
The detail view has a single General tab containing all fields for the ECR organized into sections: Identity, Dates, and Notes & Details.
