Generating and printing Engineering Change Notices

Overview

An Engineering Change Notice (ECN) is a formatted, printable document generated from a released (or draft) Engineering Change Order. It summarizes all the details of the change — identity, dates, affected departments, linked records, signoff approvals, changed parts, and BOM changes — in a standardized document format suitable for distribution and record-keeping.

The ECN view is accessible from the SavantPLM sidebar. It is also reachable directly from any ECO's detail view via the 📄 View ECN button.

Accessing the ECN View

There are two ways to reach an ECN:

ECO List

When you open the ECN view from the sidebar without specifying an ECO number, the page displays a list of all ECOs. You can filter this list by status (All, Released, Unreleased) and toggle whether voided ECOs appear. Click View ECN on any released ECO, or View Draft on an unreleased one, to load its ECN document.

Looking Up an ECN by ECO Number

Enter an ECO number in the ECO Number field and click 🔍 Look Up. The ECN for that ECO will load below. If the ECO does not exist or has no content, an error message will appear.

The ECN Document

The ECN is laid out as a formal document with the following sections:

The Notes field from the ECO General tab does not print on the ECN — it is for internal use only. Only Description and Reason appear on the ECN document.

Draft ECNs

An ECN can be viewed in Draft mode before the ECO is released. Draft ECNs display a prominent DRAFT watermark across the document. This is useful for previewing the ECN layout and content before finalizing signoffs and releasing.

Printing and Saving as PDF

Click the 🖶 Print / Save as PDF button to open the browser's print dialog. The page is formatted for print — navigation, sidebars, and screen-only controls are hidden, leaving only the ECN document. Use your browser's "Save as PDF" option to create a digital copy.
