⚠ Non-Conformance Reports

Documenting and managing NCRs in SavantPLM

Overview

A Non-Conformance Report (NCR) documents a part, material, or process that does not meet your specifications or quality requirements. NCRs provide a formal record of what was found, where it was found, how many units are affected, and what was done with the nonconforming material.

Common uses include incoming inspection failures, in-process defects, and customer returns. Once a root cause investigation is needed, an NCR can be linked to a Corrective Action Report (CAR) to track the investigation and resolution.

NCR List View

The NCR list displays all NCRs in your workspace with key details at a glance. You can search by NCR number, title, or part number, and filter by status or assignee using the controls in the top bar.

Creating an NCR

Editors with the appropriate permission can create a new NCR using the form at the top of the list view (unlock the view first if it is locked). Fill in the required fields and click Add NCR. The NCR number is assigned automatically in sequence.

NCR Detail View

Click an NCR number in the list to open its detail view. The detail view shows all NCR fields in a read-only layout. Editors can switch to edit mode to update any field. Below the form, the detail view shows derived cards for any Linked CARs, Linked MCRs, and Linked ECRs that reference this NCR, followed by the comment thread.

Comments

The comment thread on each NCR detail page provides a running log of investigation notes, updates, and decisions. All workspace members can view comments; editors can add, edit, and delete their own comments. Comments are timestamped and shown in chronological order.

Linking to a CAR

When an NCR requires a formal root cause investigation, open a Corrective Action Report (CAR) and enter the NCR number in the Linked NCR # field on the CAR detail view. The NCR will then display the CAR in its Linked CARs card automatically.

Closing an NCR

Change the status to Completed once the nonconforming material has been dispositioned and any required corrective actions are underway. Completed NCRs remain visible in the list and can be filtered by status.
