Managing reusable wire, cable, and terminal specs
Clicking Wire Library on the Home tab opens a single panel with three mode buttons at the top — Wire, Cable, and Terminal — rather than three separate destinations. Only one mode is shown at a time, each with its own table, its own "Add" button, and its own "Refresh from PLM" button.
The Wire table lists PN, Name, AWG, Color, Conductor Type, Temp Rating (°C), Vendor, Vendor PN, Mfg, Mfg PN, and PLM. Adding or editing a wire entry sets:
A cable entry represents a multi-conductor bundle with its own part number — not a composition of individual wire entries. The Cable table lists PN, Name, Conductor Count, AWG, Jacket Material, Jacket Color, Temp Rating (°C), Vendor, Vendor PN, Mfg, Mfg PN, and PLM. The Add/Edit form covers Part Number, Name/Description, # Conductors, Conductor AWG, Jacket Material, Jacket Color, Temp Rating, sourcing fields, and the same SavantPLM retrieve option as wires.
The Terminal table lists PN, Name, Type, Insulation, Color, AWG Min/Max, Conductor Type, Stud Size, Material, Plating, Vendor, Vendor PN, Mfg, Mfg PN, and PLM. The Add/Edit form covers Part Number, Name/Description, Type (Ring, Spade, Ferrule, Pin, etc.), Insulation (Insulated, Non-Insulated, or Heat Shrink), Color, AWG Min/Max, Conductor Type (Stranded, Solid, or Both), Stud Size, Material, Plating, sourcing fields, and the SavantPLM retrieve option.
On a wire's Object Properties, check Use Wire Library to swap the free-text PN field for a dropdown of library wires. Picking one auto-fills Color, AWG, Temp, and Name/PN from that entry and locks those fields so they can't drift out of sync — updating the library entry later keeps every wire using it consistent. Cables and terminals have the equivalent Use Cable Library / Use Terminal Library toggles on their own properties panels.
Each mode has its own Refresh from PLM button, which re-syncs every PLM-linked entry in that section (Wire, Cable, or Terminal) against the latest SavantPLM data in one click — the same idea as the Symbol Library's Refresh All.
Deleting a wire, cable, or terminal library entry first checks whether it's currently used on any schematic or nailboard in the workspace. If it is, deletion is blocked and you'll see a list of the drawings (by drawing number, revision, and name) referencing it, with the hint to unlink or reassign it there first. If it's unused, you'll get a normal confirmation prompt before the irreversible delete.
